BJJ Gi Care

If you want to retain the size and colour of you Gi it is important to follow the manufactures guide lines.

Some Gis can be washed at normal low temperatures, others require cold washes. Some are pre shrunk but this does not necessarily rule out further shrinkage. It's advisable to air dry your Gi and avoid heat drying such as radiators or tumble dryers. Most manufactures will probably advise washing in cold water and air drying out of direct heat. You may even want to shrink your Gi to get a better fit (seek advice from manufacturer). Also, using chlorine bleach will damage the fibers and reduce the life of the Gi.

Most clubs will also recommend washing your Gi after every training session to help reduce the spread of germs and infections.  No one wants to roll with a person wearing a smelly Gi either!

Setting the Colour.

To minimise fading some manufactures advise soaking the Gi in cold water with 2-3 cups of white vinegar.  Let soak for 20-30 minutes before washing. A cold wash and a colour safe detergent will help.  There is also similar advice with Bicarbonate of Soda.

The above is not a generic guide for all Gis. All Gis differ to some extent. BJJ Locker strongly advise following the manufactures guide lines.  At BJJ Locker we do not take any responsibility for any damage cause when washing or setting the colour.

Choosing the Correct BJJ Gi Size

Which size am I? Good question. With most brands you will be able to choose between A1 to A5. Although most manufactures scale their Gi sizes in this fashion, they still may differ. Please refer to the manufactures guidelines when choosing your Gi. At BJJ Locker we have included the manufactures size guides with the Gis when you view the products.

There are other variations that differ with brands such as sleeve length, jacket length, cuff size, design and overall fit. Please choose wisely.
